| I enjoy the pleasure
and challenge of the ceramic art form and craft. My goal is
to create both artistic and functional pottery as each creative
process synergizes each other. Using stoneware clay and conventional
throwing techniques, I choose the appropriate glaze and glazing
technique to complement the object’s shape and surface.
I use a pallete of skills such as slip application, underglaze,
over glaze (in-glaze), sponging, spraying, and spattering.
My work has evolved from simpler to more complex forms incorporating
my personal experiences and statements.
In some of my work I favor the use
of wonderful vibrant colors on traditional shapes to reproduce
the Mediterranean majolica effect, a pottery style I observed
in my travels abroad. Colors are selected based on the clay
form being decorated and their complementarity to each other.
The colors are applied in layers using spattering applications
controlled to highlight the production of overlapping colors
and new color blends. |
